Computational Theory of Mind

Introduction

The philosophical inquiry into the mind broadens into computation with the contemporary metaphor of the mind as a computing machine. Philosophical postulation into the nature of the mind as computation has cultivated several theoretical stances regarding the relation of the mind to the brain, the function of the mind as a computer, and the actuality of the mind as a form of computation. Computational theory of mind represents a conceptual shift in philosophical inquiry from logical positivism to empiricism in pursuit of a complete and satisfactory explanation of the fundamental nature of the mind.
